2 When the arighteous are in bauthority, the people crejoice: but when the dwicked beareth erule, the people fmourn.
When the righteous people are in the government, they experience prosperity and peace. The people will rejoice for they will be blessed of God. There are laws irrevocably decreed in Heaven upon which blessings are predicated upon (Doctrine & Covenant 130:20-21). It's by righteous principles that we are blessed.
19 For as by one man’s adisobedience many were made sinners, so by the bobedience of one shall many be made righteous. Romans 5:19. This is connected to the Proverbs verse that I've brought up. When we disobey God's commandments, we become sinners in that we broke the commandments that God gave to us. How can we remedy that? By obeying the commandments that God gave to us. It's by obeying that we can come near to God. We obey by repenting, being baptized for remission of our sins by those with authority, receiving the Holy Ghost by the laying on hands, and enduring to the end which is continuing to keep God's commandments.
On the other hands, when the wicked men are put in the government, they begin to experience wars, rumors of wars, and many conflicts. Over the course of history we've seen many instances of empires that fell because of the secret combinations and because the people was wicked. The people will mourn when the wicked people are put in government. For they will cause the downfall of the entire nation.
The Book of Mormon reveal the history of three nations. The Jaredities who came from the Tower of Babylon. The Nephites and Lamanities who came from Jerusalem 600 years before Jesus Christ was born. All was destroyed except for the Lamanities who are the principle ancestors of the Native Americans. In the history books we see the same happen to other empires. Israel existed as a great nation, one of the greatest in the ancient worlds, under King David and Solomon. When the kings became wicked and followed after the worldly things their nation was conquered by the Assyrian and the Babylonians. Years later they came under the Roman Empire, another of the great empire that Jesus the Christ was born into. Later the Roman Empire collapsed. Not because of outside influences but because of the inside influences. It's the people themselves that made the differences.
There are people today who don't believe in that. They believe that "it is according to the genius of the people". Those who say that doesn't have any understanding of the true nature of all things. When nations fall, it's because of wickedness. Even in modern times we see such instances. Iraq under Saddam fell because of the tyranny that sits at the government and oppressed the people. Any nations that fight against God will be smitten. It can happen to anyone, even to America.
